New Bars Around Pasadena to Know This Fall

By Alejandro Espitia · 6 min read · 2026-09-24

A historic brick tavern bar in Old Pasadena at night with brass taps, backlit amber bottles, and warm Edison bulbs

This edition of the nightlife roundup maps the bars around Pasadena worth knowing this fall, and it leads with two rooms the guide has not covered yet: the jazz-and-cocktails gastropub in an 1890s alley building and the Bavarian beer hall inside the former police station. It then recaps the newest openings in Altadena and South Pasadena so newcomers get the whole map in one read. Every pick below was verified on September 24, 2026 against the venue's own page or a published directory, and unless a date is stated, these are ongoing rooms rather than one-off events. Your host is Alejandro Espitia, Broker Associate and REALTOR with Apex Realty and Investments, California license 01213999, with 18+ years across Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Gabriel, and Riverside, in English and Spanish.

Edwin Mills by Equator: cocktails and jazz on Mills Place

Edwin Mills by Equator at 22 Mills Place sits inside a historic 1894 brick building on the Old Pasadena alley that gives it its name, the same address that was China Palace and then the beloved Equator Cafe before the rebrand to a gastropub and craft-cocktail bar in January 2015. It runs a New American menu of burgers, fish tacos, and salads, pours cocktails and a happy hour, and layers in live jazz nights, which makes it one of the few places in the district where you can hear live music with your cocktail and stay in Old Town. It is the room to know if you want the classic alley-bar experience without leaving the grid.

Der Wolf: a Bavarian beer hall in the old police station

Der Wolf at 72 N. Fair Oaks Avenue occupies the former police station and city hall building, and it leans fully into the setting: a German beer hall with about 20 German and German-inspired taps, sausages, schnitzel, spaetzle, and pretzels at communal tables, a beer-garden patio, and a hidden speakeasy lounge downstairs. It opened in February 2015 as Der Wolfskopf and now trades as Der Wolf, but the room has not changed its ambitions: big pours, hearty plates, and a second, quieter bar hiding below the main hall. Old Towne Pub is just down the alley and keeps booking live bands, so the block can hold both.

Stone Brewing Tap Room: the dependable stop on Raymond

Stone Brewing Tap Room at 220 S. Raymond Avenue is Stone's Old Pasadena outpost, a relaxed taproom pouring the brewery's IPAs and seasonal drafts a few steps off the Colorado Boulevard strip. It is an easy pre- or post-show stop for the Ice House a few blocks north, and for visitors it is the most reliable glass of beer in the district.

The newest openings, recapped

For newcomers, the newest rooms still set the map. Bar Betsy at 871 E. Mariposa Street in Altadena, the all-day cafe and evening wine bar from chef Tyler Wells, opened April 13, 2026 and remains the newest bar opening near Pasadena. Sid's Bar at 1020-1022 El Centro Street in South Pasadena, inside the former school auditorium of Sid The Cat Auditorium, keeps its rotating cocktails and DJ nights. Osa Rooftop at 540 E. Colorado Boulevard in the Playhouse Village remains Pasadena's only rooftop bar, on top of the AC Hotel. And just north of town, Good Neighbor Bar at 2311 Lincoln Avenue and the Altadena Town and Country Club are both back after the Eaton fire, running again as the community rooms they were before. Earlier editions covered each in detail, so they get the recap rather than a re-review.

One honest note for this edition: as of September 24, 2026, no brand-new cocktail bar inside Pasadena proper had hit the listings that could be independently confirmed, so this guide does not invent one. Instead it maps the two rooms added to its coverage this fall, the dependable taproom, and the newest verified openings nearby. Names, addresses, and hours were checked against the venues' own pages on September 24, 2026, and hours change with the season.

What a nightlife map says about a neighborhood

A nightlife map is a neighborhood truth table: a city that can hold an alley jazz bar in an 1890s brick building, a Bavarian beer hall, a rooftop cocktail room, and a wine bar in the foothills is a city where people actually gather, which is the city with the strongest rental and resale story. When you tour, walk the blocks at night: Mills Place for the jazz room, Fair Oaks for the beer hall and the live band dive, and South Lake or the Playhouse Village for the cocktail views. Alejandro Espitia of Apex Realty and Investments brings 18+ years of local real estate and home financing experience to that decision, in English or Spanish, for buyers, sellers, and investors across Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Gabriel, and Riverside.
