Bars to Know Around Pasadena This Fall: Rooftops and Speakeasies

By Alejandro Espitia · 6 min read · 2026-09-22

A hidden speakeasy bar in Pasadena at night with warm amber light, a marble bar, whiskey shelves, and a phone booth door

This edition of the nightlife roundup maps the Pasadena bars worth knowing this fall, led by the rooftop lounge above GRANVILLE on South Lake, the phone-booth speakeasy inside Freddie's 35er in Old Town, and the Craftsman-bungalow cocktail room on Lake Avenue, with the biggest new openings across the line carried over from earlier editions. Every address, phone, and hour below was verified on September 22, 2026 against the venue's own page, Time Out, Visit Pasadena, Discover Los Angeles, or a current business listing. Your host is Alejandro Espitia, Broker Associate and REALTOR with Apex Realty and Investments, California license 01213999, with 18+ years across Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Gabriel, and Riverside, in English and Spanish.

Bar Del Mar at GRANVILLE: cocktails above South Lake

GRANVILLE at 270 S. Lake Avenue has long been the South Lake district's New American restaurant, and its upstairs room, Bar Del Mar, is one of the few places in Pasadena where you can drink above the street. Expect a cocktail and weekend brunch program under the open sky, a room the locals call the city's hottest restaurant-and-rooftop combination, and a lounge that traditionally runs later than the dining room on weekends. The restaurant line is (626) 360-7633, and the restaurant's own page carries today's hours.

10 1/4: the phone-booth speakeasy in Old Town

10 1/4 Pasadena at 12 E. Colorado Boulevard is hidden inside Freddie's 35er in Old Town: you walk downstairs, pick up a working phone in the booth, make the call, and the door opens into a small, dimly lit room. It is best known for an exceptional whiskey program, a bar top inlaid with coins, exclusive bottlings, and a seasonal, playful cocktail menu. The room closes Monday and Tuesday, runs Wednesday 6:00 p.m. to midnight, Thursday through Saturday 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., and Sunday 7:00 p.m. to midnight, per current listings.

Magnolia House: cocktails in a Craftsman bungalow

Magnolia House at 492 S. Lake Avenue pours craft cocktails and market-driven small plates out of a roughly century-old Craftsman bungalow that has been a family home and, after Prohibition, a neighborhood liquor store. It has been a South Lake constant since 2014, with a happy hour, draft beer and wine, and weekday-morning coffee service too. Hours vary by the day, from late-afternoon openings on weeknights to Saturdays that start at 9:00 a.m., so glance at the current listing before you plan the visit.

Why these rooms join the map this fall

Earlier editions covered the openings that put this area on the nightlife map: Osa Rooftop on the AC Hotel in the Playhouse Village, Sid's Bar inside the former school auditorium in South Pasadena, Good Neighbor Bar and Bar Betsy in Altadena, and the Altadena Town and Country Club's return. This edition adds the verified in-town rooms above; together they give Pasadena a rooftop to speakeasy to lounge range it did not have a few years ago. Locals also report a large bar space under construction at Belmont Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard, with no opening date published yet, so this guide says that plainly rather than dating it.

One honest note on verification: every address, phone, and hour above was checked on September 22, 2026 against the venues' own pages or current listings. Hours change with the season, so confirm before you go, and the Belmont and Fair Oaks construction is reported by locals but has no published opening date.

What a nightlife map says about a neighborhood

A nightlife map is a neighborhood truth table: a city that can hold a rooftop lounge, a phone-booth speakeasy, and a century-old bungalow bar is a city where people actually gather, which is the city with the strongest rental and resale story. When you tour, walk South Lake and the Old Town alleys at 9:00 p.m. as well as 9:00 a.m., and let the crowd tell you where the energy sits. Alejandro Espitia of Apex Realty and Investments brings 18+ years of local real estate and home financing experience to that decision, in English or Spanish, for buyers, sellers, and investors across Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Gabriel, and Riverside.
