Bar Betsy and the Newest Bars Around Pasadena

By Alejandro Espitia · 6 min read · 2026-09-18

The long wooden bar of a new Altadena wine bar at golden hour, with string lights and an open garden terrace

This edition of the nightlife roundup leads with the one genuinely new bar the Pasadena area added this year: Bar Betsy in Altadena, the all-day cafe that turns into an evening wine bar, from the chef behind the acclaimed live-fire restaurant Betsy. It then maps that opening against the newest rooms from earlier in 2026, Sid's Bar in South Pasadena and Osa Rooftop in the Playhouse Village, so you know what a night out in each pocket actually looks like. Every address and detail was verified on September 18, 2026 against the venue's own site, the Los Angeles Times, Eater LA, or Time Out. Your host is Alejandro Espitia, Broker Associate and REALTOR with Apex Realty and Investments, California license 01213999, with 18+ years across Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Gabriel, and Riverside, in English and Spanish.

Bar Betsy: Altadena's Parisian wine bar on Mariposa Street

Bar Betsy opened Monday, April 13, 2026 at 871 E. Mariposa Street in Altadena, one door down from Betsy, the live-fire restaurant that Eater named a best new restaurant in 2025, and it comes from the same chef, Tyler Wells. The Los Angeles Times described it as a mountain version of a Parisian wine bar: coffee, pastries, and snacks by day, wine in the evening, with a planted garden, an outdoor oven, and a long table for events tucked behind the room. It is the newest confirmed bar opening near Pasadena, and a real part of the community's post-fire revival along Lake Avenue.

How Bar Betsy fits the 2026 map

Measured against the other rooms this year, Bar Betsy is the newest. Sid's Bar opened in spring 2026 inside the former school auditorium at 1020-1022 El Centro Street in South Pasadena, sharing the building with the Sid The Cat Auditorium music venue. Osa Rooftop opened in 2025 as Pasadena's only rooftop bar at 540 E. Colorado Boulevard in the Playhouse Village. Good Neighbor Bar at 2311 Lincoln Avenue in Altadena, from the Everson Royce hospitality team, reopened after the Eaton fire and anchors the north end of the scene. For the full fall map, see the earlier editions of this series, linked below.

What an evening looks like at each

Bar Betsy is the early-evening room: day-to-night, garden tables, natural wine, and snacks worth crossing town for. Sid's Bar is the concert-bar pairing for Sid The Cat shows, with rotating cocktails and DJ nights under the old schoolhouse beams. Osa is the skyline date: cocktails and city views from the AC Hotel roof. Good Neighbor Bar keeps the list tight and the hours late, and the Altadena Town and Country Club remains the historic room that came back after the fire.

One honest note on verification: as of September 18, 2026, no brand-new cocktail bar opening inside Pasadena proper could be confirmed for this edition, so this guide says that plainly rather than inventing one. Bar Betsy is the newest verified opening near Pasadena, Sid's Bar and Osa remain the newest confirmed rooms on either side of the line, and the established rooms are listed because they are real and close by.

What a nightlife map says about a neighborhood

A nightlife map is a neighborhood truth table: the town that can hold a Parisian-style wine bar in the foothills, a rooftop bar, and a schoolhouse cocktail room is the town where people actually gather, which is the town with the strongest rental and resale story. When you tour, walk the Lake Avenue strip and the Fair Oaks corridor at 9:00 p.m. as well as 9:00 a.m., and let the crowd tell you where the energy sits. Alejandro Espitia of Apex Realty and Investments brings 18+ years of local real estate and home financing experience to that decision, in English or Spanish, for buyers, sellers, and investors across Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Gabriel, and Riverside.
