New Bars Around Pasadena: The Verified Map, Early October 2026

By Alejandro Espitia · 6 min read · 2026-10-01

A candlelit wine bar with backlit amber bottle shelves, a worn zinc bar with stemmed glasses, and brass lamps in a low-ceilinged room

This edition of the nightlife roundup is the honest one: as of October 1, 2026, no brand-new bar door inside Pasadena proper could be confirmed in the past month, so this guide says that plainly rather than inventing one. What it does instead is re-check the current map so every room below reads true today: La Cave and the Dungeon from the newest wave, Bar Betsy and Sid's Bar just across the lines, Osa Rooftop as Pasadena's only rooftop bar, and Bacari on the way at One Colorado. It also clears up the names that circulate on hot-new-bars lists and can be mistaken for fresh openings. Every address and detail below was verified on October 1, 2026 against the venue's own page or a published story. Your host is Alejandro Espitia, Broker Associate and REALTOR with Apex Realty and Investments, California license 01213999, with 18+ years across Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Gabriel, and Riverside, in English and Spanish.

La Cave: still the newest serious wine room in Old Town

La Cave at 163 W. Green Street remains the newest wine bar of note inside Pasadena proper, open since late 2025 from Romuald Guiot, the French-trained pastry chef behind the vegan patisserie ID-Eclair next door. The list leans French and international with a specialty in Alsace pours, bottled biodynamic, Bordeaux, and Burgundy selections, and artisanal small plates and plant-based desserts on the side. It runs Wednesday through Sunday from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., closed Monday and Tuesday, at (626) 365-1157 and lacave.la, and Pasadena Magazine keeps it on its 2026 drinks guides. It is the room to book when you want a quiet, serious glass rather than a scene.

The Dungeon: the women-owned basement under Der Wolf

The Dungeon remains the city's most unusual recent opening: the women-owned basement speakeasy under Der Wolf, the Bavarian beer hall at 72 N. Fair Oaks Avenue, with custom hand-painted art on every wall and a full-service bar. The venue's own site lists Thursday to Saturday from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. with a Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while its Yelp page shows different windows, so this guide flags the conflict rather than picking one side, same as earlier editions. Call (626) 219-6054 and confirm hours before you go.

The names on the hot lists that are not new: a correction

A pass through the hot-new-bars lists surfaces a few names worth correcting, because none of them opened in 2026. Bull and Barrel, the whiskey and cocktail bar inside Alexander's Steakhouse at 111 N. Los Robles Avenue, dates to about 2015 per its Yelp listing. Behind Bars, the unmarked speakeasy at 42 Mills Place in Old Pasadena, has been pouring since before the 2026 wave and simply earns its repeat mentions. The Lucky Tiki is real but not in Pasadena: its rooms are in West Hollywood and Highland Park, just over the city line. Good Neighbor Bar at 2311 Lincoln Avenue in Altadena is a room worth knowing, but it opened in October 2024. None of that makes them bad stops; it makes them established rooms, and this guide exists so you know the difference between new and newly popular.

The current map, re-checked

For newcomers, the landscape is quick to learn. Inside Pasadena: La Cave and the Dungeon above, Osa Rooftop at 540 E. Colorado Boulevard on the AC Hotel as the city's only rooftop bar, Magnolia House at 492 S. Lake Avenue pouring craft cocktails from a Craftsman bungalow, and the rooms that set the standard, Ladies and Gentlemen at 59 E. Colorado Boulevard, The Speakeasy at 25 N. Raymond Avenue, The Blind Donkey at 53 Union Street, and Lucky Baldwins at 17 S. Raymond Avenue. Just across the lines: Sid's Bar at 1020-1022 El Centro Street in South Pasadena, inside the former school auditorium next to Sid The Cat, and Bar Betsy at 871 E. Mariposa Street in Altadena, the all-day cafe and evening wine bar that opened April 13, 2026 and remains the newest bar opening near Pasadena. Coming next: Bacari, the Mediterranean small-plates group, is confirmed for One Colorado's Hugus Alley at 41 Hugus Alley with a soft opening targeted for early 2027.

Names, addresses, and details verified October 1, 2026 against venue pages, the Old Pasadena directory, and published reviews. Hours vary and change with the season.

One honest note repeated from earlier editions because it is still true: no brand-new cocktail bar inside Pasadena proper was confirmed for this edition, so this guide does not invent one. The newest verified openings remain Bar Betsy in Altadena in April 2026, the Dungeon and La Cave in Old Pasadena, and Bacari on the way to One Colorado. What the current map says about the neighborhood

A town where the newest serious wine room lives a block off Green Street, a painted speakeasy sits under a beer hall on Fair Oaks, a rooftop anchors the Playhouse Village, and the next opening is booked for One Colorado has a nightlife map with real depth. The honest corollary is that the wave is building rather than bursting: the rooms that opened this year are holding, and Bacari lands next. For a home shopper, that range of walkable evening options, from quiet wine bar to rooftop to speakeasy, is exactly the kind of amenity that holds value in the blocks around it.
